BM #6 - A Day in Great Wall of China

 Blue Monday #6 - Great Wall of China

Three years ago, hubby and I were invited to visit Beijing by Mars (Hubby's childhood friend and classmate). We stayed there for five days, although we had hectic schedule, I enjoyed all Mar's itinerary for us. The excitement part was the day we climbed Great Wall of China.  Mars decided to go up near Beiing called Mutinayu, since not much crowd( usually tourists go to Badaling). Well, we didn't really climb, first we took cable car to go up. Then, we walked and enjoyed the scenery, even my husband kissed the wall just to make us laugh... that's him a lot of sense of humor. When we got tired, we used the chairlift to go down, and that was unforgettable!

#17 Food, Massage, etc…

Upon our arrival Mars prepared dinner for us in the hotel. Yummy sinigang (sour soup), chicken adobo, and fried fish + leche flan!

We went out for dinner the following nights! We had peking duck (roast duck), the best in one of the traditional restaurant! Special Taiwanese Food, Hotel’s Buffet (+ Hotel’s breakfast everyday!), A Fun Ti Muslim Food, and Japanese Food… pizzas…the best around the area!

My husband and I had also a complimentary massage in hotel’s spa + the unforgettable foot massage for 90 minutes!

Our life in Beijing is more than enough!

#16 Bugs for Snacks

Dare to eat bugs?

The very popular snack street in Beijing offered different kind of bugs like cockroach, cricket, dragonfly, etc… + silkworm, centipede, snake, scorpion, and starfish.

My husband tried the snake, starfish, silkworm (he couldn’t take it!) and centipede (yayks!)

He had an allergy after eating the centipede!

#15 A Funti Culture

A Fun Ti Restaurant

Muslim food (jalal) is what this restaurant offered from the province of Xin Jiang (west part). There was a band on a small stage that begun the fun, followed by Xin Jiang belly dancers, acrobats, kungfu dance, etc. Guests were invited from the audience. Those invited danced and joined the fun, and end up dancing on top of the table.

We were invited few times, and they were asking me to show my belly for the dance!!! No way, over my dead body!

#14 Yunglo Temple

The Yulong friendship store deals with all the folk crafts and collections over the country. The works of the masters includes cloisonné, embroidery, handwriting and painting, and the four treasures of the study, jewellery and jade, dresses, carpet, tea, etc. teas of sorts, thousands of kinds.

The Yulong friendship restaurant hall has the Chinese meals such as Chuan meal, Lu meal, Yue meal, and the imperial cookings. It also has the HongKong tea, Japanese meals and so on.

#13 The Sacred Way

Among the many Sacred Ways, the one of Ming Tombs is best preserved and complete. The Sacred Way starts with a huge stone memorial archway lying at the front of the area. Constructed in 1540, during the Ming Dynasty, this archway is the earliest and biggest stone archway existing in China today.

#08 The Great Wall

Mutianyu is a section of the Great Wall of China located in Huairo County 70 km northeast of Beijing. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is connected with Jujongguan Pass in the west and Gubeiko Gateway in the east. As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, Mutianyu section of Great Wall used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs.

Beihai Park is in the centre of Beijing with 800 years’ of history. The main buildings are Tuan Cheng (Round Town), Yong’an Temple (Eternal Peace Temple), Nine Dragon Screen (one of China’s three remaining screens of the kind), Paradise Hall and the White Pagoda.

Hutongs are narrow streets of alleys in Beijing.
The word “hutong” comes from the Mongolian hottog meaning ‘water we’ll”.
It also referred to neighborhoods.
